Percival Everett's, James was a summer stand-out. This novel is the obverse of Mark Twain's, Huck Finn. Reading it filled me with an urge to teach the journey's of both Huck and Jim that Everett and Twain offer. Each author crafts a novel around shared characters from different perspectives meriting a Venn diagram.

Jim and Huck, in James challenge the canonical American classic in Huck Finn. Everett describes his book in a PBS interview as a conversation with Twain. Perhaps Twain would consider Everett's, James a chance to continue examining the myths versus realities of American history.
